Lord Shiva is worshipped as Ekambareswarar in this Temple. A significant feature of the temple is the 3500 years old mango tree whose branches are said to bear four different flavours of fruit. There are separate shrines of Lord Vishnu as Nilathingal Thundam Perumal and a separate shrine for Nataraja. An important characteristic feature is the thousand pillared hall.
